According to updated rules, two sealed bottles of alcohol per person are authorized to be transported within the Delhi Metro, officials said on Friday. However, they stated that consuming alcohol inside metro premises is still absolutely banned. Alcohol was previously prohibited on the Delhi Metro except on the Airport Express Line, according to the DMRC statement.

“However, a committee comprised of officials from the CISF and DMRC reviewed the list, and as per the revised list, two sealed bottles of alcohol per person are allowed to be carried on the Delhi Metro at the same level as the provisions on the Airport Express Line,” it stated. The DMRC has recommended that metro riders maintain good etiquette while commuting.

Officials added that if any passenger is discovered behaving indecently while under the influence of alcohol, appropriate legal action would be taken against them.

Passengers on the Delhi Metro are not permitted to carry more than one lighter or matchbox per person. This amended restriction is currently included on the metro’s website, along with its rules and regulations on forbidden objects within the metro.

Air India, like Metro, has revised its alcohol policies. According to new airline norms, “guests should not be permitted to drink alcohol unless served by the cabin crew, and the cabin crew should be attentive to identifying guests who might be consuming their own alcohol”
