The Ayushman Vay Vandana initiative was introduced by the Delhi government on Monday, providing free medical care up to Rs 10 lakh to city residents 70 years of age and above.
At a ceremony in the capital, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta gave the first Vay Vandana cards to the recipients.
This program would offer free medical care of Rs 5 lakh per year. The Delhi government’s plan would also offer Rs 5 lakh coverage, for a total of Rs 10 lakh in health coverage.
According to Gupta, “This is the first programme of its kind under the triple engine model, and I thank Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi for respecting our elderly with this health scheme.”
Registration opens today, and the only requirements are to be a Delhi resident and possess an Aadhaar card. “There will be no difference between the rich and the poor; everyone will benefit from this scheme, regardless of their financial background,” she stated. You may sign up starting today.
Over 30,000 hospitals in the city have registered for cashless care, and more than 100 hospitals are part of the program. She added, “This is a big step forward.”
Attacking the former AAP administration, Gupta said that “the previous government did an injustice by delaying this scheme in Delhi for seven years due to ego and political reasons.”
“We pledge to transform Delhi with triple involvement. The city will advance in terms of beauty, education, and development. The advantages of this plan will be felt by everybody. There is a great deal of responsibility, but we shall work together. “We will give Delhi the advancement it deserves; excuses won’t work anymore,” Gupta continued.
According to Health Minister Pankaj Singh, the government is striving to improve Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure, and this is a historic move for the city’s healthcare system.
“Any resident of Delhi, including those living outside the city, can join in this program because it is portable. Singh said, “ICU care, surgeries, chemotherapy, and 961 other medical treatments are also included.”
Every older adult who has registered will receive a special health card under the Vay Vandana Yojana. Their whole medical history, information from routine checkups, and emergency service information will all be safely stored on one card.
Under the program, all health examinations for Delhi residents 70 years of age and above would be performed entirely at no cost.
“Serving the elderly is our top priority,” Gupta said in an earlier post on X. Senior adults 70 years of age and more can now receive health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh from the combined governments of the Centre and Delhi.
