Fast Train Service Connects Katra and Srinagar
A new fast train now links Katra and Srinagar, making travel between these two cities in Jammu and Kashmir much quicker and more comfortable. The service began after a special ceremony and is a major step in improving year-round travel to the Kashmir Valley.
- The train journey between Katra and Srinagar now takes about three hours, cutting down travel time by nearly half compared to road trips.
- The route covers 272 kilometers and passes through some of the most challenging and scenic parts of the Himalayas, including the impressive Chenab and Anji Khad bridges.
- The train line includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, making it one of the most remarkable railway projects in the country.
Train Schedule
- Two train pairs run six days a week, with services paused on Tuesdays for one pair and Wednesdays for the other.
- Main stop is at Banihal, with more stops expected to be added in the future.
- Departure from Katra is at 8:10 AM and 2:55 PM, while return trips from Srinagar are at 2:00 PM and 8:00 AM, depending on the train number.
