Hospitals on High Alert as Covid Makes a Comeback in Metro Cities
After a long period of quiet, Covid-19 is making a cautious comeback in several of India’s key cities. Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, along with Gurgaon, are all seeing new cases, prompting health officials to take extra steps to protect the public.
Delhi’s New Cases
In Delhi, twenty-three people have tested positive for Covid-19 in a recent wave—the first notable rise in almost three years. The Health Minister reassured everyone that all patients have only mild, flu-like symptoms and are stable. A special team is keeping an eye on the situation, and hospitals are making sure they have enough beds, oxygen, and medicines ready. Every hospital is also now required to report daily Covid numbers and send positive samples for further study.
Mumbai’s Climb in Cases
Mumbai has had a sharp jump in Covid cases this month, with ninety-five new infections so far in May. Across all of Maharashtra, only one hundred and six cases had been reported since January, making this rise especially noticeable. At least sixteen people have needed hospital care, and some patients have been moved to different hospitals to help manage the spread. Officials are now testing everyone with serious respiratory or flu-like symptoms.
Bengaluru’s Situation
Most of Karnataka’s active cases are in Bengaluru—thirty-two out of thirty-five. Even a nine-month-old baby has tested positive and is receiving care in the city. Health experts say cases have been gradually increasing over the past three weeks and are reminding everyone, especially those at higher risk, to follow safety measures like wearing masks and keeping hands clean.
Gurgaon’s Small Spike
Haryana has reported four new cases, with two each in Gurgaon and Faridabad. None of these patients have traveled abroad recently. The state’s health minister said all are experiencing mild symptoms and are under home quarantine with regular check-ups. The health department is watching closely to keep everyone safe, but there’s no need for panic.
Staying Safe and Alert
Doctors say the current version of Covid-19 is easy to catch but mostly causes mild illness. Still, they recommend wearing masks in crowded places, keeping hands clean, and making sure vaccinations are up to date. With small surges appearing in Gujarat, Kerala, Haryana, and now the big metro cities, health teams are stepping up their watch and making sure they’re prepared for any situation.
