ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final: What If IND vs NZ Ends in a Tie or Rain Plays Spoilsport?

At the Dubai International Stadium (DIS) on Sunday, Team India will face New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. This will be the 120th time the two teams have faced each other in ODI cricket, with India winning 61 times and New Zealand winning 50.

To keep an undefeated record in this competition, Rohit Sharma’s Indian team won the last game between the two teams, the Champions Trophy 2025 Group A encounter in Dubai on March 2. But in the IND vs. NZ contest over the years, seven games have finished in a draw and one has resulted in a draw.

What Would Happen If There Was A Draw In The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy Final?

New Zealand is accustomed to ICC finals ending in a draw. Both their match against England in the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup final and the ensuing Super Over ended in a draw. A count-back based on the number of boundaries each side hit determined the result of the match, and in that case, England was proclaimed the winners.

But the ICC has abolished this regulation. A Super Over will be used to determine the victor if India and New Zealand’s match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 ends in a draw. ‘Super Overs’ will be played between the sides until a winner is declared.

Is There A Provision Of ‘Reserve Day’ For The Final?

‘Reserve day’ is also a feature of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. When the final was rained out in Colombo on both days of the 2002 Champions Trophy, Team India had to settle for sharing the trophy with Sri Lanka.

Both sides must play at least 25 overs on Sunday, the actual match day, for it to be considered a game. This is an increase from 20 overs during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 league stages.

The game will be moved to Monday, March 10, which is “Reserve Day,” if weather prevents either team from finishing the full 25 overs. On the Reserve Day, the game will resume where it ended the day before.

Both teams will once again be proclaimed joint victors, as was the case in 2002, if the final is rained out.
