In Honour Of Guru Nanak Jayanti, The Golden Temple In Amritsar Was Lit Up In Its Entirety

Today, November 19, is being celebrated as the auspicious festival of Guru Nanak Jayanti. It marks the birth anniversary of one of the first ten Sikh gurus, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. ANI was told by a devotee who was lighting oil lamps, “Celebrated with awe and devotion for our master, Guru Nanak Dev’s 552nd Prakash Parv is being marked with the message of “Kirat Karo, Naam Japo,” “Vand Chako.” Sikhs are submitting to their guru in different parts of the nation. I wish everyone a happy holiday season.”

Mr. Singh also lauded the government’s move to abolish last year’s three unpopular agriculture legislation. Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, declared on Friday that the three central agriculture regulations will be abolished.

A second devotee said “I’ve come from Kolkata, which is around 2,000 kilometers distant, to Darbar Sahib. The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has been completed and is operational. The government’s decision to remove agriculture laws is a good thing. I prayed to god during Deepmala. Also, it’s a lot of fun to see these fireworks go off.”

Gurupurab, or Guru Nanak Jayanti, is one of Sikhism’s most significant holidays. Today is the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, who was born on this day in 1499. It is believed that Guru Nanak was born on April 15, 1469, in the contemporary Pakistani district of Sekhpura, in the Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi area, not far from Lahore.

The celebrations for this festival start about two days ago with a 48-hour non-stop recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, called Akhand Path. A procession called Nagarkirtan is also organised a day before Guru Nanak's birthday.
