Karnataka’s Congress government would begin the ‘Gruha Jyoti’ free power plan on August 1 and the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme, which offers Rs. 2,000 support per month to women recognised as family heads, on August 17 or 18, chief minister Siddaramaiah.Siddaramaiah made the statement during a high-level meeting. Both ideas are part of Congress’s five poll guarantees.
The government intends to begin the Gruha Jyoti programme on August 1 in Kalaburgi, while discussions are underway to launch the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Belagavi on August 17 or 18. Siddaramaiah directed that the application procedure for all guarantee schemes is simplified and that no irrelevant data or documentation be requested. Also, if applications are refused, appropriate explanations should be given, he added, warning authorities not to reject them for silly grounds.
Because a significant number of applications are expected for all of the guarantee programmes, the CM asked the e-governance department staff to improve the capacity of the Seva Sindhu site to accommodate the massive volume of data submitted, his office stated in a release.
After the meeting, Siddaramaiah told reporters that authorities had been asked to expand the Gruha Jyoti, or fee power initiative, to tenants as well. Women from below-poverty-line (BPL) and above-poverty-line (APL) families can apply for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, but taxpayers and GST-registered families cannot, he added.
The Seva Sindhu Portal may be used to register for the Gruha Jyoti initiative. Help desks will also be established in all ESCOMs (Electricity Supply Companies). The registration period will begin on June 15.
Applications can be filed in Bangalore One, Karnataka One, and Gramme One centres, as well as at home through a computer or mobile app. According to the statement, new homeowners or tenants will also be granted free power facilities depending on the state’s average electricity use. Based on this data, free power will be offered after an average of one year is available.
