The awaited Kedarnath ropeway project has received approval from the Union Cabinet, which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nevertheless, the ropeway, which is expected to cost Rs 4,081 crore, would provide pilgrims with a more expedient, pleasant, and environmentally sustainable mode of transportation.
12.9 km Ropeway: Everything You Should Know
The difficult 16-kilometer uphill hike or other means, such as horses, palanquins, and helicopters, will be replaced by the 12.9-kilometer ropeway that will connect Sonprayag and Kedarnath.
With a daily capacity of 18,000 passengers, the cutting-edge Tri-cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology can carry up to 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction, according to The Economic Times. In contrast to the existing 8- to 9-hour voyage, the travel duration will be dramatically shortened to just 36 minutes.
The project, which was constructed through a public-private collaboration, is anticipated to boost the local economy by creating a large number of jobs throughout both the building and operating stages. Additionally, it will stimulate industries like tourism, culinary services, and hospitality, encouraging year-round tourists.
Located in Uttarakhand at an elevation of 3,583 meters, the Kedarnath temple welcomes around 20 lakh people each year. Sonprayag and the temple will be more easily accessible and weatherproof thanks to the ropeway.
