Delhi Government has revised its excise policy under which dry days are reduced. Now the city will have 3 days as compared to 21 days. The news was released under an official order.
All the licensed opium venders and liquor shops will be closed on Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October), Republic Day (26th January) and Independence Day (15th August). The order was issued by Excise Department of Government of Delhi.
The order said, “In pursuance of the provisions of Rule 52 of Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, it is hereby ordered that the following dates shall be observed as “Dry Day” in the National Capital Territory of Delhi by all the licensees of the Excise department and opium vends located in Delhi for the year 2022.” It also listed days when licensed liquor shops cannot sell alcohol.

All the hotels with L-15 license can sell alcohol to its guests even on the said 3 days.
Earlier Delhi had 21 Dry Days on accounts of several festivals, birth anniversary of leaders and more. The order also said that government can declare any other day as a dry day apart from 3 days. Liquor businesses would have to follow the order.
It also stated that no compensation will be given to businesses on account of more dry days if declared by government. The liquor shops should also place the copy of the order at a conspicuous place in their licensed premises.
