This time around Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukherjee) is shown as a police officer posted in the city of Kota (the mecca of engineering and medical entrance). The trailer opens up with crime stats from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The stats read “More than 2,000 rape crimes are committed by boys under 18 years in India every year”. This makes it clear that the story revolves around nabbing of rapists who are creating a threat to the security of women in the society.

Rani seems to carry on the style and intensity in her character as was seen in the first part of the movie. The trailer shows her investigating crime scenes, indulging in a chase, and ordering the police department to work 24 x 7 to nab rapists.
The Mardaani franchise is known to highlight national issues concerning women. Last time it was human trafficking and this time it is about the rape crimes. The story of Mardaani 2 is said to be inspired by true events (as per the trailer) and highlights a serious issue on the silver screen.
In 2 minutes 19 seconds trailer Rani has made it clear that she would be leaving a mark with his performance. The very fact that female leads are a rarity in such action-packed thrillers makes Mardaani 2 a movie to watch for.
