India’s premier medical institute and hospital All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has presented a surprising study. A research paper of the AIIMS studied the patients who were admitted to the hospital as positive for COVID-19.
As per the study out of 231 admitted patients with mild illness — a large proportion of around 47% remained asymptomatic. They remained asymptomatic during the course of the infection and none of the patients progressed to moderate-severe disease. As per the medical standards, those with mild disease can be allowed to recover outside the hospital setup say at homes.
The study was published in a paper titled ” Management of mild COVID-19: Policy implications of initial experience in India“. The study involved the AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, who earlier said that the peak of cases in-country would come in June.

The study was however conducted during the initial part of the pandemic when patients irrespective of the severity of symptomatology were admitted. The study can come on handy as the number of cases have begun to rise and there is an overburden on hospitals. Hospitals in cities like Delhi and Mumbai can get some breather working on the finding of this study.
