The new year 2023 is around the corner and like every year, we are all set to make resolutions which we barely stick to by the end of the year. This year was no exception and I am sure the coming year will be just like it. However, it is still good to keep your heart in the right place and try to become a better version of yourself every day.
Keeping all these things in mind, I Googled the following resolutions that shall keep you on track for the upcoming year.
1. Make Goals, not Resolutions
The first thing you need to do is create a list of the goals you want to accomplish and not resolutions. It is easier to achieve goals and not resolutions because we can measure goals. So let us begin by doing that instead of just writing down resolutions and never being able to fulfil them.
2. Start a Gratitude Journal
Make sure to start a gratitude journal which will help you stay grounded and craft your priority list. Make it a point to write down 10 things you are grateful for. You can do it on an everyday basis or weekly or monthly as per your choice.
3. Try Something New
To break the monotony of life, it is important to take on a fresh perspective on life. The simplest way to do this is by trying something new. I am not asking you to like everything you try but at least have a heart that is willing to jump on to new endeavours.
4. Go on Friend and Family Dates
With life going on and our focus shifting to our careers, we are forgetting to cherish the little things in life which include our friends and family. I highly recommend you plan dates with your friends and family members on occasion so that you can bring balance to your life.
5. Allow Yourself to Have Friendly Disagreements
We are so caught up in our beliefs that we sometimes forget that everyone’s mindset is different. It would be a great practice if you learn and allow yourself to have friendly disagreements with people around you. This way, you will protect other people’s feelings and respect their opinions which shall earn respect back to you.
6. Write Letters and Take Social Media Breaks
It might have been so long since you wrote a letter to one of your friends or family members. Take this new year as an opportunity to write letters to the people you care about while shutting off social media for a while. You can even create a schedule to scroll through social media.
7. Step Outside
I am not asking you to become a yoga or gym champion. All I am suggesting is that you must step outside of your house on a regular basis to do things that contribute to your health. You can go for a walk, a run, a badminton match or just sit in the garden and watch kids play. Every step counts.
8. Relaxation Time
It is important to make time to relax your mind which can include things like meditation, listening to music, painting, cooking or whatever you like. There must be one thing that gives you peace and you should make time for it.
9. Start a Diary
We often have thousands of things going on in our minds and the worst thing we can do with that is share it with others in the heat of the moment. So what is the solution? The best thing that we can do is pour our thoughts into a diary where our thoughts can be safe.
10. Practice Saying ‘No.’
It sounds easier than it is. We often adopt a people-pleasing personality to ensure that no one is hurt around us. Little do we know that we end up hurting ourselves in this process. So, the best thing would be to practice saying no to the things that are hurting us in any way.
11. Consider Therapy
I am not implying that you need it but considering that we grew up in an area where mental peace is the most ignored, we should wonder if we really need some kind of therapy to live a better life than we already are.
