In the opening Champions Trophy 2025 encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday, Pakistan fell to New Zealand by 60 runs, their fourth consecutive loss to the Kiwis, despite tenacious half-centuries from Babar Azam and Khushdil Shah. With William ORourke and Mitchell Santner collecting three wickets apiece, the Kiwis easily won despite the Men in Green losing wickets at regular intervals and the injury of opener Fakhar Zaman.
Earlier, New Zealand scored 320 thanks to hundreds from Will Young and Tom Latham. Pakistan will have to chase 321 under the lights. Latham reached his century off just 95 balls, while Young left for 107 runs after reaching his first century away from New Zealand. Glenn Phillips also put on a show, scoring 61 runs off of 39 balls.
It’s a fantastic change of events for Young because, had Rachin Ravindra been healthy, he most likely would not have been able to participate in today’s match. Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Pakistan, had previously won the toss and chosen to bowl first against Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand.
