After the government of India suspended all tourists visas till April 15 amidst coronavirus outbreak in the country, a top BCCI source told PTI that no foreign players will be available to play in the IPL scheduled to begin from March 29.
“The foreign players who play in the IPL come under the Business Visa category. As per the government’s directive, they can’t come till April 15,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
To recall, the Union health ministry on Wednesday announced that all existing visas — except diplomatic, official, UN/International organisations, employment and project visas — will stand suspended till April 15. The visas of foreigners already in India will remain valid.
“This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on 13th March 2020 at the port of departure,” read a communique.

Earlier, BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, talking about the possibility of calling-off the IPL had said that the event will not be postponed. However, to curb large gatherings, BCCI has been considering to host matches in empty stadiums. An official announcement on the matter, however, is still awaited.
