State-by-state differences in planned bank holidays should be taken into consideration if you have any banking-related arrangements for May 2025. This month, there are a lot of regional holidays. While banks nationwide won’t be closed on every day, some major holidays can have an impact on how banks operate in specific areas.
Please take note that on the second and fourth Saturdays, all banks, scheduled and non-scheduled, will observe public holidays.
Bank holidays in May 2025
In May, banks will be closed on Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labour Day), Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday, Buddha Purnima, State Day, Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birthday, and Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
List Of Important Bank Holidays By State
Due to regional celebrations, local festivals, and gazetted holidays, banks in many states will be closed on the following dates:
- May 1 (Wednesday) – Labour Day / Maharashtra Day
On May 1, 2025, banks in Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra will be closed in observance of Maharashtra Day and Labour Day.
- May 9 (Friday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
On May 9, 2025, West Bengal banks will be closed in observance of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti.
- May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Poornima
Due to Buddha Poornima, banks will be closed on May 12, 2025, in Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
- May 16 (Friday) – Sikkim State Day
On May 16, 2025, Sikkim’s banks will be closed in observance of State Day.
- May 26 (Monday) – Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam
On May 26, 2025, banks in Tripura will be closed in observance of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birthday.
- May 29 (Thursday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti
On May 29, 2025, banks in Himachal Pradesh will be closed in observance of Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
Services, including in-branch banking, cheque clearing, NEFT/RTGS payment transfers and loan processing or approvals may be impacted by bank holidays. Any physical banking or paperwork needs should be scheduled beforehand, even if ATMs, internet banking, and mobile banking services usually continue to function.
