Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted the Indian armed forces complete operational freedom to determine the mode, timing, and targets of their response following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.
At a high-level meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Modi reaffirmed his confidence in the military’s professionalism and India’s resolve to deliver a decisive blow to terrorism.
Government sources indicated that the Prime Minister’s directive marks a significant shift, removing bureaucratic constraints and empowering the armed forces to act with precision and urgency. This development comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control, with ongoing ceasefire violations and increased security measures across the region.
In addition to military considerations, India has taken several diplomatic steps in response to the attack, including suspending visas for Pakistani nationals and putting the Indus Water Treaty on hold. The Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Modi, is set to meet again to review the situation and coordinate further action.
The message from the country’s leadership is clear: India will not tolerate acts of terror and will pursue those responsible, along with their sponsors, to the “ends of the earth,” ensuring they face consequences beyond imagination. Security forces have been placed on high alert, and intelligence-based operations continue in Kashmir as the nation awaits the next steps in India’s response.
