Having thumped Bangladesh 2-1 in the T20 series last Sunday India was right on the money on Day 1 of the 1st test at Indore. Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque won the toss and opted to bat, post which the Indian bowlers made life tough for the batsmen.

Umesh Yadav gave first blow to Bangladesh in face of Imrul Kayes in the 6th over. Ishant Sharma soon followed it up and got the wicket of Shadman Islam to leave the visitors in trouble at 12/2.
At lunch, Bangladesh was at 63/3 with captain Mominul Haque and wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim on crease. The two provided resistance to the Bangladeshi innings with a 60 plus partnership taking the score close to the three-figure mark.
Post-lunch spinner R. Ashwin also joined the wickets club taking his 250 test scalp on home soil. Ashwin achieved the feat by dismissing Haque on the score of 37. Ashwin became only the third Indian player beside Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh to achieve the feat. He also became the fastest Indian and the joint-fastest overall (along with Muttiah Muralitharan ) to take 250 wickets at home. Ashwin did so in his 42nd test for India.

Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/27. India now has an upper hand in the match and can convert the opportunity into a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The 2nd of the two tests would be played in Kolkata and would be the first-ever pink ball day and night test on Indian soil.
