Simplified FASTag KYV Process: Easier Verification for Vehicle Owners

To make digital toll payments more user-friendly, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has introduced a simplified Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTag users. These new steps aim to enhance convenience and reduce the hassle involved in verifying vehicle details.

Streamlined Vehicle Verification

Under the revised rules, FASTag services will continue uninterrupted for users who are yet to complete their KYV process. Instead of immediate deactivation, vehicle owners will get enough time and reminders to update their information.

Key highlights include:

  • Only the front photo of the vehicle showing the number plate and FASTag sticker is now required.
  • Side-view photographs are no longer necessary.
  • Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) details will be auto-fetched from the Vahan database once users provide their Vehicle Number, Chassis Number, or Mobile Number.
  • For users with multiple vehicles linked to a single mobile number, the system will allow them to choose which vehicle to verify.

FASTags issued before the new KYV norms will remain valid unless reported for misuse or fraud. Issuer banks will also send SMS alerts reminding customers to complete their KYV before any disconnection is considered.

Better Support and Seamless Service

If customers face issues during the verification process—such as difficulty uploading photos—the issuing bank must proactively assist them until the process is complete.

For further help, users can contact the National Highway Helpline (1033) to register complaints or seek support related to their FASTag verification.

According to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, these changes reflect the department’s focus on a smoother, faster, and more transparent experience for all highway users. The move strengthens the digital tolling ecosystem while ensuring minimal disruption to everyday commuters.

New Toll Rules for Non-FASTag Users

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently updated the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, aiming to encourage greater adoption of digital payments.

From November 15, vehicles without a valid FASTag can still pay through UPI, but at 1.25 times the standard toll fee. If they pay in cash, the charge will double, following existing guidelines.

This update is designed to reduce cash handling across toll plazas and promote a smooth, cash-free journey experience.
