As protest is going on in the U.S after the death of George Floyd protestors hit out at the statue of ‘Father of Nation’ at the Indian embassy. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian embassy in Washington was vandalized by the protestors.
As per reports by Hindustan Times, the statue was vandalized with graffiti and spray paint. The incident took place on the intervening night of June 2 and 3. The Indian embassy informed the State Department and registered a complaint with the local law enforcement.
After the incident came to light US Ambassador to India, Ken Juster has presented an apology from the side of his country. “So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Wash, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies. Appalled as well by the horrific death of George Floyd & the awful violence & vandalism. We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover & be better“, he tweeted.
