Making the job easier for the world out there, #shamlessgirl, writes Sanjana Rishi, who has the buzz on her side of the court ever since she wore pant suit at her Indian wedding.
The 29-year-old Indian American wore the bridal pantsuit for her wedding with Delhi based businessman Dhruv Mahajan. The suit was accompanied by a veil and simple jewellry. And surely, the foreign trend grabbed some eyeballs among Indians where experiment with bridal wear is not a common phenomenon yet.
Moreover, foreign I say because the bridal pantsuit is a well-celebrated attire in the western world.
Ever since Ms Rishi’s pictures went viral on the internet, obviously, her look was appreciated by many including numerous fashion designers and Bollywood celebs.
“I’ve never come across an Indian bride dressed like this,” says Nupur Mehta Puri, former editor of a bridal magazine. “Brides usually like to wear Indian attire along with the traditional jewellery from their mothers and grandmothers.This was something very new. And she really stood out,” She added.
Plan and Planned
Ms Rishi reveals that she had in her mind the outfit she is going to sport since the first day she decided to get married. “I knew I was going to wear a pantsuit, and I knew exactly which one,” she recalls.
Ms Rishi, who “believes in an environmentally sustainable fashion” and, as per BBC, generally buys a lot of second-hand clothes says she had bumped into the bridal suit at a boutique in Italy.

“It was a pre-loved vintage suit, made in the 1990s by Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré. I was surprised and delighted to know that it was still available when I decided to get married.”
Interestingly, her husband was also not aware of the attire she was planning to wear for the wedding.

“Until I saw her, I had no idea what she’d be wearing, but it really didn’t matter because I knew that whatever Sanj wore, she’d rock it.”

In fact, he says when he first saw her, “I didn’t even notice at first that she was wearing trousers, all I noticed was how stunning she looked. She looked angelic, absolutely gorgeous”.
