As a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link (USBRL) project, Chenab Bridge got the title of the world’s highest bridge located in Kouri, Reasi District, Jammu and Kashmir. Konkan Railways has shared some of the most beautiful pics of Chenab, which got priceless reactions on social media from the viewers.
The Scenic Beauty of Chenab Bridge
For the past few years, Indian Railways was indulged continually in constructing the Chenab Bridge, which is now said to be opened for business in December 2022. Being 1.3 Km long, it is located in the Kouri region of Reasi District, Jammu Kashmir.
Shared pictures by the Konkan Railways show that Indian Railways has achieved something remarkable, clouds can be seen flying below the Chenab Bridge which is constructed on the mighty Chenab River.
With enthusiastic patriotism and loud slogans, on August 13, the part called “Golden Joint” of this bridge was completed amid a flag hoisting act. With this remarkable achievement, the long-awaited dream of travelling to Kashmir by Rail can now happen.
“By next year, the work of laying the track on it will also be completed. The most prominent feature is that safety standards have been taken care of on this bridge.”
Some Noticeable Features Of World’s Highest Railway Bridge:
If you know the height of the Eiffel tower, then you should know that the Chenab bridge is 35m higher in comparison.
Being an arch-structured bridge, it is constructed above the Chenab river in the Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking about the distance between the arch and the water level of the Chenab River, it measured 359m.
“Salal-A and Dugga railway stations have been connected on both sides with the launch of the overarch deck of the Chenab bridge.”
The bridge, which is a part of one of the major railway projects to connect Udhampur to Baramulla, a 272 Km long route, has been built with various safety measures in mind including earthquake resistance.
Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link is an essential Railway project which will be the next remarkable achievement for Indian Railways in a year or two.
“The length of the 17-pillared bridge is 1315 meters and 28,660 metric tonnes of steel have been used in its construction at Rs 1,486 crore. The installed arch weighs 10,619 metric tons.”
The steel used in constructing the Chenab bridge can withstand temperatures ranging from minus 10 °C to minus 40 °C.

Chenab Bridge’s lifespan is estimated at around 120 years.
