After the news of shut down of Uber Eats came the parent firm Uber is looking to make some more cuts. Uber Technologies Inc would relive around 3, 700 employees worldwide. This has come as the firm is facing crunch time due to pandemic triggered lockdown and slowdown.
Around 500 to 700 of these firings would happen in India. Uber’s Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi will forgo his base salary for the remainder of the year. The announcements were made by the company in a statement. In India Uber would be laying off about 25-30% of its total workforce.
The firm has witnessed a sharp decline in business due to the lockdown amidst the pandemic. As per sources Uber has around 2,000 employees in India. This comes after Uber fired 536 employees from its food delivery arm. It is also shutting operations of Uber Eats in 7 countries.
During these times of pandemic, the economic slowdown and fall in demand have pushed the firms to walls. Many big firms like Uber have cut their strengths or are sending employees on unpaid leave.
