In a much-needed and positive step, the Union Minister of India on Tuesday announced that male government employees, who are raising their child all by themselves aka are a single parent, can take child care leave too.
Child care leave is usually granted to women employees. The whole leave-period could be two years maximum during the entire service before their child reaches the age of 18. To note is the fact that the parent can take child care leaves only thrice a year and these employees will be paid for the same.
Surprisingly, the order to allow the single male parent to avail child care leave was passed back in 2018 but as per the Union Minister, people were so not aware of it.
These leaves, as per the minister, span for 2 years, which is 730 days, and employees get a full salary during the first 365 days and 80 per cent of the salary in the next 365 days.
