WhatsApp is releasing a voice message transcription tool, which is already accessible for certain beta iOS users, according to WABetaInfo, as the social media network continues to introduce new features to improve the user experience.
After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.9.0.70 update available on the TestFlight app, we can confirm that WhatsApp is finally releasing this feature to some beta testers!” according to the WhatsApp news tracker.
This feature is automatically enabled, but if you do not wish that your voice messages to be transcribed for whatever reason so you have the option to disable it. You can disable it by heading to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts.
Since the transcription process is carried out locally on the user’s device using language packs, it should be noted that this function will always maintain end-to-end encryption.
Since the application uses the newest APIs provided by iOS 16, which enable the application to process the voice message locally on the user’s device without the need to transfer the message to outside servers, only some users on newer versions of iOS can transcribe messages.
Since the text becomes organized and searchable after the voice note is transcribed, the users can also make use of this feature to look up information inside the message.
Some beta testers who installed the most recent WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app can now transcribe voice notes, and more beta testers will be able to do so in the upcoming weeks.
