With no coronavirus cases, despite lifting major lockdown restrictions in mid-May, New Zealand is all set to completely lift the lockdown including restrictions on social distancing in the coming days.
The country’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told a press conference that New Zealand was “ahead of schedule.” The country has not reported any new cases for 12 days in a row.
Now, the cabinet will review the alert settings to decide the future course of action to open the country completely. “If and only if there are no further unexpected cases over the coming days, then we could be in a position to move to alert level one that week,” said the PM.
Alert level one means there would be no restrictions on domestic transport, no restrictions on gathering, and all schools and workplaces would open.
It is delighting to see a country recover from the pandemic and getting back to its feet. It is only a matter of days when people will again be able to gather like they used to unlike the current limit of 10 people in a gathering in New Zealand.
New Zealand PM, as of now, has said that the borders will be closed for international commuters for a month or more. She also had said that people in the country should travel more to help the county revive its economy.
For the same reason, she had asked employees and employers to mull a 4-day work week that would give people more time to spend with their families.
