In the WTC Final 2021, the entire 2 days of play were washed out and three days were marred by rain. However, New Zealand beat India by 8 wickets on the Reserve Day to win the inaugural World Test Championship at Southampton Rose Bowl on Wednesday.
With this loss, India’s 8-year wait for an ICC trophy stretched further. India last won an ICC trophy was under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2013.
However, India was bowled out for 170 on the Reserve Day after Kyle Jamieson wreaked havoc again and dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in the first hour. Rishabh Pant managed to keep the scoreboard going with 41 runs but wickets kept on falling from one end.
Later, at one stage, New Zealand were 44 for 2 in the 139-run chase, however, Kane Williamson (52*) and Ross Taylor (47*) took his team safely over the line.
