In a first and much-needed step, Assam’s state cabinet on Tuesday announced that government jobs, in the state, would be out of bound of people with more than 2 children starting from January 1, 2021.
During the cabinet meeting, a New Land Policy was also adopted by the state, which will give three bighas of agricultural land to landless indigenous people and half a bigha for constructing a house. The land cannot be sold for 15 years.

The developments come 2 years after the Assam Assembly had passed the ”Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam” in 2017. The policy specified that job candidates with two children only would be eligible for government jobs and the existing government staff were told to strictly follow the two children family rule.
