EPFO to Launch Aadhaar-Based Portal for Activating Dormant PF Accounts
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is launching a new digital platform to help members find and reactivate dormant or “unclaimed” EPF accounts using Aadhaar. Even if these old PF accounts are not linked to a Universal Account Number (UAN), members will be able to access them with Aadhaar‑based verification, labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.
What the new portal will do
The new portal, called E‑PRAAPTI (EPF Aadhaar‑Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts), will let subscribers:
- Find and track old PF accounts that are lying inactive.
- Update their personal details online.
- Link and seed their UAN (Universal Account Number) without needing their employer’s help.
This means workers can reactivate forgotten PF accounts, check balances, and continue using them for future employment, without visiting EPFO offices or relying on former employers.
How it will work in simple steps
- In the first phase, the portal will work with member IDs from old PF accounts, so people who still have their old PF details can start the process.
- Later, the system will expand to help those who do not remember their member IDs, using Aadhaar and other basic details to locate the right account.
- Users will log in with Aadhaar, verify their identity, and then choose to update KYC, link UAN, and activate the account.
Why this matters
Many EPF accounts become “inoperative” or inactive when people change jobs or forget their PF details. With E‑PRAAPTI, EPFO wants to:
- Reduce the number of idle PF balances.
- Make it easier to withdraw or transfer old PF savings.
- Cut paperwork and dependence on employers or offices.
Broader EPFO digitisation push
Alongside this, EPFO is already settling many claims online, especially for advance or partial withdrawals. In the last financial year, the organisation processed over 83 million claims, with a large share being approved in less than 3 days through auto‑mode. At the same time, more than 60 million members filed claims without uploading cheque‑leaf images, and many seeded their bank accounts without employer approval. This shows that the overall system is becoming faster and simpler for members.
In short, the new E‑PRAAPTI portal is meant to make sure your old PF money is not lost or forgotten—it can be found, updated, and reused with just a few clicks and your Aadhaar.
