The holy shrine of Golden Temple may soon ban the mobile phone inside its premises. The Akal Takht is revisiting the thought of banning ‘mobile phones’ troubled by the shooting of TikTok videos.
Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of the Akal Takht said people shoot TikTok videos click selfies inside the shrine even after been asked not to do so. “We want all devotees to visit the Golden Temple without any hassle and we are not in favor of imposing any such (mobile) ban but the way the incidents of TikTok are surfacing, I think imposing a ban on carrying mobile phones inside (Golden Temple) will have to be pondered over in the future”, said Singh.
He added that some of the devotees even argue with ‘sewadars’ (workers) upon being stopped from clicking photos inside the premises. Photography and videography in the precincts of the Golden Temple have already been banned by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to avoid any “disturbance” to the spiritual atmosphere.
The statement from the Akal Takht comes days after a TikTok video shot inside the Golden Temple by three girls with a Punjabi song playing in the background went viral on social media. Police complaint was filed against the girls who later apologized. Such incidents have become regular and the SGPC is now looking to go for ban to curb this.
