Every year, the Kanwar Yatra brings thousands of devotees to the roads, especially in and around Ghaziabad. To ensure the safety of both pilgrims and regular commuters, special traffic arrangements are made. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand the changes this year.
Main Roads Affected
During the Kanwar Yatra, some of the busiest roads in Ghaziabad and nearby areas will see major changes in traffic flow:
- Delhi-Meerut Road
- Delhi-Meerut Expressway
- Muradnagar to Tila Morh Pipeline Road
These roads will be closed or restricted for regular vehicles at specific times. The main alternative route for most vehicles will be National Highway (NH)-9.

Routes for Pilgrims
- Foot Pilgrims: The Muradnagar to Tila Morh route and Delhi-Meerut Road are set aside for Kanwariyas walking from Uttarakhand.
- Dak Kanwar Groups: The Delhi-Meerut Expressway will mainly be used by Dak Kanwar groups, who travel faster by using light vehicles in a relay style.

- Groups move holy Ganga water quickly by taking turns running behind a vehicle.
- This helps them cover long distances faster than walking alone.
Traffic Diversion Details
Heavy Vehicles
- Diversion Starts: 10 PM, July 11
- Restrictions: No entry on Delhi-Meerut Road, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and Muradnagar to Tila Morh Pipeline Road.
- Alternative Route: Use NH-9 from UP Gate, then proceed to Dasna and other destinations via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE).
Light Vehicles
- Diversion Starts: 8 PM, July 17
- Restrictions: Same as for heavy vehicles.
- Alternative Route: Use NH-9 and EPE to reach Meerut and other areas.
Duration
- All restrictions remain until the morning of July 25.

- NH-9 will be the main route for reaching Dasna, Hapur, Moradabad, and other places.
- EPE connects to Palwal, Greater Noida, Baghpat, and more areas in western Uttar Pradesh.
- Local Roads in Ghaziabad:

- Local traffic will be limited and Kanwariyas will get priority.
