On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a special commemorative Rs. 125 coin through a video conference. The release was announced to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the founder of the Hare Krishna movement, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. During the occasion, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy was also present.
ISKCON has translated Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta and other Vedic literature into 89 different languages. It plays a stellar role in the dissemination of Vedic literature all over the world. Also, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada established more than a hundred temples and wrote several books, teaching the path of Bhakti Yoga to the world.
PM Narendra Modi said in Hindi, “आज हम श्रील प्रभुपाद जी की 125वीं जन्मजयंती मना रहे हैं। ये ऐसा है जैसे साधना का सुख और संतोष एक साथ मिल जाए। इसी भाव को आज पूरी दुनिया में श्रील प्रभुपाद स्वामी के लाखों करोड़ों अनुयाई और लाखों करोड़ों कृष्ण भक्त अनुभव कर रहे हैं: PM मोदी.”

Swami Prabhupada or Srila Prabhupada Background
Srila Prabhupada or Swami Prabhupada was born on September 1, 1896, in Kolkata. Abhay Charan De was the name of his birth. Initially, he used to run a pharmacy business in 1959 before leaving India to make people aware of the teaching of Krishna. He went to New York in 1965 and set up the first ISKCON centre, which now has temples and cultural centres in different cities of the world.
