UP Govt Approves ₹51.89 Crore Boost to Maintain Nutrition Supply Under ICDS
In order to sustain continuous supplemental nutrition services under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), the Uttar Pradesh government has approved ₹51.89 crore through a new “Top-up Arrangement for Supplementary Nutrition Scheme.”
Cost increases brought on by growing market prices for components like chana dal and masoor dal, which are above the Centre’s Cost Norms for 2017, would be addressed via the top-up mechanism.
For the third and fourth quarters of FY 2024–2025, the state will incur additional costs beyond the established standards to close this deficit. For October–December 2024, ₹25.92 crore has been allocated, and for January–March 2025, ₹25.97 crore.
Through Anganwadi centres, this policy would guarantee the ongoing distribution of nutrient-dense products like as edible oil, gram dal, and fortified wheat to qualified recipients.
Adolescent girls (ages 14–18), pregnant and breastfeeding women, and children ages 6 months–6 years are among the beneficiaries, especially in areas where malnutrition is a problem.
Nutrition is being purchased through NAFED in order to alleviate the present supply issues. The Chief Minister will find appropriate substitutes if prices or supply diverge from established standards.
Through Take-Home Ration (THR) facilities run by women under the UP Rural Livelihood Mission, the state is concurrently encouraging domestic manufacturing. By 2026–2027, 347 units are expected to be completed.
In order to achieve uniform nutrition distribution and better health outcomes throughout the state, the top-up effort supports this infrastructure development.
