Vaishno Devi Yatra Halted from October 5 to 7 Due to Adverse Weather Alert
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has announced a temporary suspension of the Vaishno Devi Yatra from October 5 to October 7, 2025. The decision follows an advisory from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has warned of severe weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir during this period. The pilgrimage is expected to resume on October 8, 2025.
According to the IMD, the region could experience heavy rainfall, landslides, and possible flooding. An orange alert has been issued, predicting intense rainfall and snowfall in certain higher areas between the evening of October 5 and the afternoon of October 7.
In a statement shared on the Shrine Board’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, authorities said the suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of devotees. The announcement urged pilgrims to follow official communication channels for real-time updates regarding the yatra’s status.
Shrine Board Advises Pilgrims to Stay Updated
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which oversees the management and safety of the pilgrimage, advised devotees to check the official website before planning their visit. The board emphasized that the decision was made keeping in mind the safety of lakhs of pilgrims who visit the shrine every year.
This is the second interruption to the yatra in recent months. The pilgrimage had only resumed on September 17, 2025, following a 22-day suspension after a devastating landslide on August 26 caused by torrential rain. That incident tragically claimed 34 lives and severely damaged sections of the trekking route.
Pilgrims are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts and board announcements over the coming days. The yatra is planned to restart on October 8, 2025, once the weather stabilizes, ensuring a safe journey for all devotees.
