WHO Praises ‘Daharavi Model’, For Managing COVID-19

While it is said to be Asia’s largest Slum it has got the praises of the World Health Organization (WHO) for managing COVID-19. With bare minimum facilities and social distancing being nothing less then a luxury in cramped houses Dharavi is fighting a successful battle against the pandemic.

WHO’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised Dharavi’s efforts in regards to preventing transmission & suppressing the virus. With around 10,00,000 people the locality is squeezed in an area spanning 2.5 square kilometers. The administration efforts of intense screening, testing, sanitation, and isolation of Covid patients and suspects has led to a continuous tapering off in the number of new infections in the area.

The Chief Minister of the state Uddhav Thackeray also hailed the efforts made in Dharavi. “Asia’s largest slum & densely populated area like Dharavi has not only shown the World that through collective effort Corona can be controlled but has also made a name for itself globally as a role model in the fight against Corona“, tweeted the CMO handle.

Dharavi has reported 2,359 Covid-19 cases with 1,952 patients recovering from the deadly infection. The locality has also maintained to slow down the doubling rate from 18 days in April to 108 and 430 days in June and July.
