India Gears Up With Big Civil Defence Drills Across States After Pahalgam Attack
After the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people lost their lives, the Indian government is taking strong steps to keep everyone safe. The Union Home Ministry has told all states to hold mock civil defence drills on Wednesday, May 7, to get ready for any new dangers that might come up in today’s tense world.
Why Are These Drills Happening?
The drills are being held because of rising threats and tensions, especially after the recent attack and missile tests by Pakistan. The government wants to make sure that every state and district is fully prepared for emergencies.
What Will Happen During the Drills?
The main things the drills will focus on are:
- Testing air raid warning sirens to alert people quickly.
- Making sure emergency communication with the Air Force works well.
- Checking if control rooms and backup control rooms are ready.
- Training regular people, students, and volunteers on how to protect themselves if there’s an attack.
- Practicing blackout measures (turning off lights quickly) to stay hidden from enemies.
- Teaching how to hide important places and factories fast.
- Checking how fast and well civil defence teams (like fire and rescue) can respond.
- Practicing how to safely evacuate people if needed.
These drills will involve not just officials, but also students, volunteers, and local people, all the way down to the village level. The goal is to make sure everyone knows what to do in an emergency and that all systems are ready to protect lives.
